The biggest personal finance achievement in February is that I finally hit the one million dollars mark. Back in my 20s when I started working I set the goal of saving one million dollars when I hit 40, that was during the dot com age. I missed that goal by a few years but so be it.
The biggest personal achievement in February, however, is that I’m now engaged and need to save money for the ring and wedding. I budgeted $50k for this but not sure if it’s enough. $20k of it will come from the emergency fund I had saved and the rest will come from monthly savings and proceeds of selling stocks.

I'm feeling sympathetic to the pressure they put on brides these days. Everyone seems so anxious to pressure them to spend, putting their hand in her pocket for an extravagant party.

This is a goal I've been working toward for a long time. I am pretty close if you count my house value but it will take a little longer to hit the $1 mil mark based on savings/investments alone....i figure 4 or 5 more years.

I already started pre-marriage counselling and one of the homework is to talk about how to create a savings plan. That will be the first step before we go deeper into how to manage our current assets. My fiancee has been doing quite well herself and she has a very strong opinion on how to manage her finances, in the past we only touched the surface when it comes to investment and finances because we have very different views. We're both good savers but I'm an active (relatively speaking) investor when she's very conservative and takes a very hands off approach. I think she only checks her portfolio on a yearly basis when I check it on a weekly basis.
I'll share with everyone how that conversation goes next month. Like snafu said, it will be a difficult one, but it must be done.
